- 10% of all cases of eating disorders will be men.
- Anorexia, Bulimia & Overeating can lead to a range of health issues, including problems with the heart, kidneys, stomach & intestines and problems with fertility.
- Anorexia has a very high rate of mortality – between 13-20% of anorexia sufferers will die from complications.
- Osteoporosis is very common in Anorexia.
- Signs of Bulimia can include tooth decay and bad breath caused by recurring vomiting.

- In extreme cases, Bulimia can be fatal due to heart failure. An imbalance or dangerously low levels of the essential electrolytes and minerals in the body can significantly, even fatally, affect the working of vital internal organs.
- Body Dysmorphia is the state in which patients do not believe that their body looks like what it actually does look like. They may see themselves as fat when in fact they are thin – or vice versa.
- Eating disorders are linked with other addictive processes such as shopping, spending, caffeine, exercise & work. Self-harm can also be associated.
